Not just another five-star resort in the Maldives, at Milaidhoo, things are done a little differently, a reinvention of luxury in the most modern sense of the word. Here, they don’t think of guests as mere holidaymakers, but as storywriters, there to craft their dream holiday to their very own design. It’s a brand of luxury based on experience, and it’s why Milaidhoo is right up there with our favourite resorts anywhere in the world.
Opened in November 2016, Milaidhoo is idyllically located in the Baa Atoll, close to Hanifaru Bay and 126km north west of Male, a scenic seaplane ride from the international airport. It’s the perfect place for nature lovers, with its own coral reef encircling the island – a protected area noted for its world-class snorkelling and diving.
On land, spectacular villas and residences are filled with light and space, their interiors furnished with curated artworks and custom-made furnishings, all designed with elegance and comfort in mind. Of course, all villas come with their very own pool on the sun deck as well as a hanging Maldivian swing, an large day bed, air conditioning and ceiling fan and magical ocean views. Bathrooms feature soaking tubs and separate rain-showers as well as full range of toiletries by Acqua Di Parma.
Dining is equally appealing, with three restaurants and two bars offering delicious but informal dining in some truly stunning settings. Our favourite has to be the Ba’theli Lounge & Restaurant, set on a boat in the lagoon. There are private dining options, too, of course, as well as a host of activities from diving to kayaking and fishing. There’s even a ‘be a marine biologist’ programme, where you’ll join the resort’s resident expert to learn about the island’s unique underwater world.
