Highlights

  • Sweeping views over the sea from the roof terrace
  • Ideally located for both beach and town
  • Balloon safaris and seal and dolphin cruises

Right across the street from a spectacular beach, this boutique hote (formerly the Zum Kaiser) could not be more perfectly positioned. It’s also on the main drag, so the Swakopmund shops are on the doorstep too; and at the end of the day there’s a gorgeous roof terrace for taking in the sweeping views of both the town and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

In more detail

Swakopmund is a delightful and lively seaside community, full of colonial architecture and home to colonies of seals – a blend that typifies the contrasts Namibia has to offer. The Artemis sits perfectly poised to make the most of it all, the beach, the town centre, and the glorious Namib Desert, right at the town’s borders.

With just 21 en-suite rooms, the hotel has an intimate vibe complemented by vast views from its fabulous roof terrace. The rooms are well appointed and tastefully decorated in understated fashion, although there’s nothing understated about the sight of the Atlantic rolling in as the sun sets behind it. Some rooms offer similar views, as does the suite, a grand 35-metre affair with a fireplace.

The fireplace burns bright in the bistro, too, where fabulous game, steak and fresh seafood including zingy oysters and sweet prawns are served, partnered by some superb South African wines. The spa offers further treats, including full body massages and reflexology.
