Step inside and it’s the sheer grandeur of this hotel that’s particularly striking. Gilded ceilings, marble arches and grand staircases set the scene for what is one of the city’s most impressive lobbies, which gives way to guest rooms replete in chic furnishings, rich fabrics and extravagantly coloured drape curtains. Higher categories come complete with Murano glass chandeliers and French windows that open up onto wrought iron balconies and views across the lagoon.
At the superb rooftop Restaurant Terrazza, a menu showcasing the very best in Italian cuisine follows the seasons, making the most of the region’s finest and freshest ingredients. It’s all prepared under the expert guidance of executive chef Alberto Fol and served to more of those incredible views, taking in the lagoon, the island of San Giorgio and a tributary of the Grand Canal. It’s a wonderful spot for lunch, dinner and indeed breakfast, which in summer is served al fresco on the terrace. Elsewhere, the Danieli Bistro specialises in Cicchetti – traditional Venetian tapas; it’s a true celebration of Italian-Mediterranean cooking. Wash it all down with a cocktail or fine wine at the Bar Dandolo, which incidentally also served a splendid afternoon tea, or the Bar Terrazza Danieli, whose Bellinis are among the best in Venice.
For further relaxation, consider an in-room spa treatment, or enjoy a workout at the fitness centre, open 24 hours a day.
