Take your place alongside a long history of Australia’s transcontinental adventurers. Following in the tracks of early ‘cameleers’, explorers and pioneers, prepare to discover Alice Springs, Katherine and the opal mines and underground labyrinth of Coober Pedy. But, by journeying on the Ghan Expedition, it’s fair to say that you’ll travel in a good degree more luxury than your forebears, even as you pass through the harsh Red Centre and untamed Outback. Throughout, you’ll disembark to explore remote outposts and frontier towns.
Although space is at a premium on The Ghan, cabins cleverly convert from cosy sitting areas to sleeping berths, with seats and side tables replaced by drop-down beds. Gold Service offers all the home comforts, with en-suite twin and single berth cabins (with shared bathrooms) available. The social heart of Gold service is the Outback Explorer Lounge where an open bar operates all day long. A la carte dining is served in the adjacent Queen Adelaide restaurant.
The new Gold Premium Service adds in priority check-in, increased luggage allowance, luxury amenities, tour preferencing and a choice of upgraded twin and suite accommodation in contemporary cabins that take inspiration from the colours and contours of the Australian outback. You'll also have exclusive access to the Gold Premium Lounge and Gold Premium Dining carriage, along with all-inclusive premium Australian wines, beers, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages.
In Platinum Service, you'll find spacious double or twin beds with larger en-suite bathrooms. Cabins are twice the size and you’ll also be treated to private transfers, included excursions, 24-hour room service and even free-flowing Bollinger champagne. It’s the chance to cross Australia in serious style. Gourmet breakfasts are served in-cabin and the Platinum Club offers gourmet dining and premium drinks, served in an exclusive lounge.
From the moment you step onboard everything is included in the price, whichever service you opt for. You'll enjoy excellent multi-course a la carte locally-sourced meals and a wide range of quality South Australian wines.
Over your time on board, you’ll spend your days watching the ever-changing landscapes, from the pastoral hues of the South Australian plains to the rusty reds of the MacDonnell Ranges and rich greens of Katherine and Darwin. It is when the train stops, however, that your adventure really begins. You'll have the chance to choose from a wide selection of included excursions that have been created exclusively for guests of The Ghan, allowing you to uncover the ancient and modern history of some of Australia's most iconic outback locations.
