Don’t let the darkwood timber and sweeping sails of this traditional phinisi ship fool you; this is one of the most luxurious liveaboards in Asia. It’s island hopping at its most indulgent, pairing dives and kayaking with spa treatments and gourmet dining. End each day in opulent timber suites, dressed in traditional artwork.

In more detail

Whether you book onto private charter or one of five exclusive suites, you’ll be treated to all-inclusive indulgence as you sail the Indonesian islands. There are the giant lizard-dragons of Komodo, the secret rainforests of Ambon and the 1,500-strong collection of green-fringed islets that make up the Raja Ampat Archipelago. Cenderawasih Bay is a particular highlight, a 14,000km2 national park that hosts everything from mangroves to tropical forests. In between, dolphins, whales, technicolour coral formations and thousands of different tropical fish make for spectacular sailings.

It’s all brought to life with a stunning array of included excursions. Whether it’s sea kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding or snorkelling and shore outings, you’ll get right to the heart of each destination. However, it’s the unlimited dives with the ship’s PADI-certified instructor that truly stand out, forming ‘the best scuba diving in Asia’ according to Honeycombers.

At the end of every day, you’ll return to the luxuries of your exclusive suite. Each is delightfully authentic, all exposed timber and Balinese textiles. Expect Indonesian artwork, polished timber floors and beautifully soft lighting. But, for the best, look to the Sriwijaya Master Suite. Here, a wraparound deck makes the most of those island views with daybeds and deckchairs and the en suite comes with a soaking tub.

Further relaxation can be had with the on-board spa where the ship’s resident therapist administers a full complement of treatments. Choose between Asian and European massage techniques or take advantage of beauty treatments that range from body masks to natural facials. The Purnama’s chef is equally good, dishing up daily changing menus that showcase the best of seasonal ingredients. Think local delicacies alongside international favourites.
