In more detail

Hotel Grimsborgir is around an hour-and-a-half’s drive from Keflavik International Airport, one hour from Reykjavik and just 15-20 minutes from the nearby town of Selfoss. Meanwhile, the standout attractions of the Golden Circle are within striking distance for a day trip; in just over half an hour, you can reach Thingvellir National Park, where most Golden Circle adventures begin.

The accommodation is bright, modern and Nordic minimalist in style, ranging from standard rooms to ultra-spacious Junior Suites and Gallery Suites. Expect white, wood-panelled walls, plush beds and tasteful artwork, and in the case of Junior Suites, an electric fireplace to further enhance the cosy ambiance.

All rooms and suites are housed in white, timber-clad lodgings arranged throughout the verdant grounds in a ring-shaped set up. Each one has access to a terrace and either a communal or private outdoor hot tub, along with complimentary Wi-Fi, bathroom amenities and tea and coffee facilities. Depending on the time of year, you can also opt-in for a Northern Lights wake up call service, so you don’t miss the aurora when it makes an appearance.

Over in the main building, a generous breakfast buffet is served every morning, with a wide variety of continental and cooked dishes to set you up for the day’s adventures. Later on, the restaurant offers an à la carte menu with a combination of traditional Icelandic cuisine and international dishes, alongside a selection of Icelandic beer, a curated wine menu and superb cocktails.
