Day 2

History & culture of Seville

Meet at the distinguished Hotel Alfonso XIII for a welcome lunch with a panoramic view of the city, as the train's concierge stores your luggage, presents your travel ticket and room number, along with your meticulously planned itinerary. After lunch, a knowledgeable local guide will escort you on a captivating exploration of Seville’s historic centre on a panoramic bus tour, culminating in a memorable stop at the stunning Plaza de España. Then, it's time to board the majestic Al Andalus to make the journey to Jerez. The attentive crew will welcome you with a celebratory toast, inviting you to relax in your luxurious and comfortable cabin. Originally conceived to ferry the British aristocracy between Calais and the French Riviera, the cabins evoke the opulence of the Belle Époque, adorned with plush velvet sofas, gilded wood paneling and even indulgent hydromassage showers. The lounge carriages, equally regal, have played host to dances, cocktail soirées and live performances, while gourmet dining and show cooking elevate the travel experience. While enjoying a gourmet dinner in one of the elegant dining cars, the train will glide towards Jerez. Upon arrival, the train will remain at the station, ensuring a peaceful night’s rest.

Day 3

Cádiz: The little silver cup

Begin the day with a delectable breakfast, whether from the sumptuous buffet or à la carte menu, served aboard the train. After a short coach journey, immerse yourself in the ancient city of Cádiz – the oldest city in Western Europe, founded over 3000 years ago – with an included tour. Known locally as la tacita de plata (The little silver cup), you'll wander through its winding streets, marvel at the Baroque cathedral and explore the coastal castle of Santa Catalina. Return to Jerez, where a gourmet lunch awaits you, prepared by the talented onboard chef. You will then have free time, before dinner at a restaurant in Jerez. The train will remain at the station overnight, ready to continue your journey the next day.

A taste of Jerez

Your day begins with an exploration of Jerez's oenological heritage. A guided tasting at a historic wine (sherry) cellar will introduce you to the region's celebrated wines. In the afternoon, you'll be captivated by the artistry of Andalusian horsemanship, as you watch the traditional ballet, "How the Andalusian Horses Dance." Lunch will be served on board the train as you travel to the enchanting town of Ronda, where a delightful dinner at a local restaurant awaits you.

Day 5

The hilltop city of Ronda

Following breakfast, arrive in the picturesque city of Ronda, claiming its place among Spain's most ancient cities, founded in the 9th century BC. Its Moorish heritage is woven into the fabric of its charming La Ciudad old town, where Islamic mosques and palaces stand as testaments to a bygone era. This captivating blend of history and beauty is further enhanced by legendary bullrings, picturesque Spanish plazas, imposing fortress walls, and delicate churches. Your knowledgable guide will lead you through the historic heart of the city, showcasing the stunning Alameda del Tajo, the iconic Puente Nuevo and the ancient Puente Viejo. Stop to marvel at the oldest bullring in Spain and the grand Mondragón Palace, among other notable landmarks. With some free time to explore at your own pace, you can wander through the charming streets, admire the breathtaking views of the Serranía and soak up the unique atmosphere of this timeless city. Later, return to the luxurious Al Ándalus for a delectable meal as you journey to Córdoba where you will spend the night.

Day 6

Córdoba to Granada via Úbeda & Baeza

After breakfast on board the train, you'll arrive in Córdoba, the former capital of the emirate and medieval caliphate of Al Ándalus, when it was the largest, most cultured and richest city in Western Europe. Visit the magnificent Mezquita at the heart of the city, a masterpiece of Islamic architecture standing as a testament to the city's rich cultural diversity. Originally built as a mosque in the 8th century, it was later transformed into a cathedral in the 13th century, adding grand Renaissance flourishes while preserving its original Moorish charm. This harmonious blend of styles mirrors the city itself, where Moorish forts, 17th-century plazas, and Renaissance palaces coexist in perfect harmony. After a delightful lunch onboard the train, you'll disembark at Linares and embark on a coach tour to explore two stunning Renaissance cities: Úbeda and Baeza, including visits to an oil mill (Almazara) and olive oil tasting. After your tour, you'll continue your journey as you enjoy dinner on board, arriving at Granda in the late evening.

Day 7

The Moorish majesty of Granada

After breakfast, visit Spain’s most popular monument – The Alhambra, a World Heritage Site. Along with your knowledgable guide, you will tour the beautiful palaces and gardens of this Nasrid fortress that was once the home of sultans and kings. After lunch, continue with a city tour of Granada, finishing the day with a dinner at a local restaurant where you will have the chance to sample the unique local cuisine, with a mixture of Middle Eastern and Andalusian influences. The train will stay in Granada overnight.

Day 8

Return to the UK

Enjoy a final breakfast on board before paying farewell to the train and its crew. Make a last visit to Granada, exploring its charms before finishing with an organised lunch. Your pre-arranged transfer returns you to the airport in time for your flight back to the UK.
