The dining at the Balmoral is an undisputed highlighted. Number One, the hotel’s flagship, is a Michelin-starred delight, with an emphasis on creative dishes that showcase the very best in fresh, Scottish ingredients. Expect sommelier-paired tasting menus to span from Highland wagyu beef to Isle of Skye langoustine. Alternatively, the Brasserie Prince by Alain Roux brings a touch of French indulgence, with its express specials and raw bar particular favourites.
Perhaps cap it all off with the excellent afternoon tea or a drink at the opulent Bar Prince. Here, you’ll find everything from classic cocktails to over 500 whiskies. There’s also plenty of quiet nooks to enjoy a cup of Balmoral-blended tea. Further relaxation can be had in the excellent spa, where treatments are paired with a dry sauna, Turkish steam room and large pool. The state-of-the gym doesn’t hurt, either.
At the end of it all you’ll retire to your superbly appointed room. Think Italian-marble bathrooms, Scottish prints and plush oversize beds. Upgrades mix in views of the internal courtyard, city or even Edinburgh’s famed icon – its hilltop castle. The suites are particularly impressive, featuring the likes of complimentary minibars and a personalised concierge service.
