Spoil yourself

Achieve the perfect balance of adventure and experience on this action-packed winter break to Swedish Lapland. With a night in the renowned ICEHOTEL, staying in a freshly carved Ice Room, and two more in warm accommodation, you’ll be perfectly placed to sample winter activities, undertake thrilling excursions and discover Nordic traditions in one of Scandinavia’s most beautiful regions. Perhaps you’ll explore the frozen forests on a husky safari or snowmobile adventure, try your hand at ice carving, or sample regional specialities at a wilderness dinner, all the while keeping an eye on the sky for signs of the Northern Lights. Whatever you choose, you’ll return to cocktails at the ICEBAR, a choice of spectacular gourmet dining options and a night to remember in one of the world’s truly unique hotels.

Day 1

A frosty reception

Fly to Kiruna, some 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Once you’ve cleared customs, a private transfer will whisk you to the ICEHOTEL, or you might choose to kick off your adventure in serious style by arriving on a sled pulled by huskies. Whichever you choose, your first glimpse of the incredible structure will be extraordinary – there’s nothing else quite like it. Everything from the foundations to the furniture is carved from ice cut from the frozen Torne River.

On arrival, collect your thermal clothing – included in the price – and enjoy a tour of the hotel before heading to your Ice Room. Or, why not spoil yourself with an upgrade to an individually themed and beautifully carved Art or Deluxe Suite? Some even come with their very own private sauna. Settle into the chilly space, taking note of the surprisingly comfortable ice bed, a carved block covered in reindeer hides on which you’ll sleep in an expedition-strength sleeping bag to combat the cold. Then, choose from one of the superb dining options and enjoy a tipple at the atmospheric ICEBAR before turning in for an exclusive stay in your own private ice cavern.

Days 2 – 3

Optional excursions

Having experienced an unforgettable night in the ICEHOTEL, awake to a cup of hot lingonberry juice before stepping into a warming morning sauna and tucking into a hearty breakfast. Then, with two days to explore, the tempo quickens as you try your hand at some of the many activities available. We’ll help you explore further by setting up snowmobile excursions through the unspoiled wilderness, dog-sled safaris through the forests and cross-country skiing expeditions through the Poikkijarvi Woods. Next, if you’re inspired by your surroundings, perhaps take a class on ice sculpting using traditional tools, try your hand at mushing a reindeer sleigh or let a local guide lead you in search of moose, foxes, hares and grouse. If you wish, we’ll also arrange an introduction to the local Sami people, so you can learn a little more about their traditional way of life through their stories, folk tales and seeing how they live today.

After all the adrenaline, relax in the lounge bar with a cocktail inspired by the Arctic – what could be more appropriate than a Dog Sled Sour or a Sparkling Polar Night? Swap stories of your own with other guests and prepare for a culinary feast prepared by a Michelin-trained chef. We recommend a seat at the Chef’s Table on the Veranda and a leisurely 12-course tasting menu or, for something adventurous, ask us about an outdoor wilderness feast inspired by the Arctic winter. Afterwards, treat yourself to a nightcap and keep a watchful eye on the star-strewn sky for a hint of those mystical Northern Lights. We’ll help you hunt for them on a snowmobile safari or horseback ride after dark. At the end of each day, retire to your warm room for a toasty night’s sleep.

About the itinerary

"For those who are looking to experience Scandinavia at its best, look no further. This iconic hotel is the first of its kind and although it has since been copied, nowhere does it better than the original ICEHOTEL. To get the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime experience, I recommend upgrading to an Art Suite. These handcrafted rooms have that extra je ne sais quoi having been designed and beautifully carved by various dedicated artists, including two brothers from Liverpool who created a room that they have called 'A Rich Seam'.
