Unsurprisingly, all the rooms are different, individual in character and design. Alongside the usual doubles and twins, the family rooms are a real delight, furnished with bunk beds in true trapper style. The suites also mix in oversize lounges. Of course, there are no TVs, but the complimentary WiFi and plush beds are perfect for unwinding after a day’s excursions. And, whichever room you choose, you’ll be treated to gorgeous views over the mountains or town.
However, life at Basecamp is all about exploration. In winter, you’ll want to head out on snowmobiles, dogsleds and cross-country skis in search of the Northern Lights. Then, summer opens up everything from coastal cruises and fjord kayaking to mountain-bike rides and trips to historic Russian settlements.
When you do return, you’ll settle into a cosy lounge to swap stories with like-minded adventurers. Indeed, the glass-roof Cognac loft is a perfect place to unwind, offering fantastic views of the starlit sky and, hopefully, the Northern Lights. The food is also superb, with hearty offerings perfect fuel for your activities.
