Explore Finnish Lapland’s winter wilderness in serious style as you discover new and exciting ways to explore the snowbound landscapes high above the Arctic Circle. Kicking things off with a stay at a Scandi-chic hideaway, you’ll have the chance to try all manner of winter activities. There’s everything from wilderness cookery classes to drive-your-own husky adventures. We’ve even included an evening snowmobile safari to help you hunt down the Northern Lights. Saving the best for last, you’ll then spend a night to remember in one of Levi’s glass igloos, watching out for the aurora’s dancing displays from the comfort of your bed.
You’ll fly to Kittila in Finnish Lapland, where winter lasts half the year. Here we’ll arrange for a private driver to meet you off the plane and bring you to your choice of hotel. Whether you choose to tackle the downhill ski slopes or cross country ski trails, sign up for a dog sled or reindeer safari, or opt to go snowmobiling, there’s a whole host of thrilling ways to discover the surrounding landscapes.
Tired but exhilarated, try a Finnish sauna to relax; the seventh floor panorama saunas at Levi Panorama have exceptional views. Later, grab a spot at your hotel's bar to compare accounts of exploring the Arctic with other guests before heading to dinner for your first taste of fresh Arctic dishes and Lappish delicacies. To cap it all off, if you’ve snagged yourself a suite you may be lucky enough to marvel at the Northern Lights from the comfort of your balcony.
Awake in the wintry wild after a soundless sleep and prepare for another day of adventure. Choose an alternative method of exploration and head out again, or take the gondola to Levi Village for a chance to stroll through this pretty place. Once dark falls, you will set off on a thrilling snowmobile safari in search of the Northern Lights – fire up your engine and set out on a guided drive through the woods, snaking past trees and speeding across frozen lakes. You might even be treated to a clear night – the moon and stars will show you the way.
While waiting for the appearance of the Northern Lights, make a stop and indulge in a wilderness feast of sausages cooked over a campfire or, for those more sweet-toothed, why not tuck into a crêpe or two. Soak in the magic of the night as you sip on hot drinks and swap stories around a crackling fire – when the ethereal aurora begins its dance overhead this will certainly be a night to remember.
Spend the morning brushing up on your Northern Lights photography skills with an expert, take a trip to a husky farm to meet the dog team or simply stride out and walk among the snow-laden woods and enjoy the stillness and silence. Then, we’ll arrange a private driver to take you to nearby Levin Iglut, a cosy glass cabin masquerading as a traditional igloo, where you can spend a heavenly evening admiring the starry sky.
Settle into your ingenious igloo and take in the panoramic views of the valley below and uninterrupted vistas of the sky above. As dusk falls, enjoy a rustic meal in the aptly named Restaurant Aurora Sky – either snuggle by the open fire or sit under a glass ceiling. As the anticipation builds, retire to your igloo and its motorised bed, and manoeuvre into the optimum position as you wait for the Northern Lights to illuminate the sky.
