In more detail

With native forests and pastures extending as far as the eye can see and pioneer décor and memorabilia abound, guests here will have an authentic experience of the Waipoua Forest of 100 years ago, but enhanced by the comfort of luxury five star accommodation. The historic Waipoua Lodge is located on the Kauri Coast in Northland, an easy two hour drive from Auckland Airport and home to many Maori cultural hotspots and diverse coastline. The lodge itself has four acres of peaceful grounds to explore including a delightful bush walk.

There are just four individually designed one or two-bedroomed suites housed in and named after the original farm buildings. Each spacious suite offers balcony views over the gardens and features one or two bedrooms, a separate living area and kitchenette plus well-appointed bathrooms, some with a clawfoot bath, and luxury amenities. Dining at the lodge is a truly agreeable experience, with locally sourced ingredients showcased in specially prepared a la carte menus featuring gourmet takes on the customary classics, accompanied by well-chosen New Zealand wines.

The lodge also plays host to a Cookery School, where personalised cooking classes offer a totally bespoke experience from the lodge’s well-equipped kitchen. Guests staying three nights or more can choose from a free cookery lesson or a three-hour guided tour of the Waipoua Forest where you can learn the legends of the ancient Kauri trees. Enjoy a range of exploratory activities including bush, coastal and freshwater lake walks, then return to the lodge for a home-cooked meal in the delightful surroundings of the dining room.
